ROMFORD TOWN STORM COUNTIES TO BE CROWNED ESSEX CHAMPIONSHIPS RUNNERS UP 2023!

Held over two weekends the highly anticipated Essex County Championships was attended by a 41 strong team of swimmers all waiting to do their best in this year’s competition. After being Runners up in 2022, Romford was all out to see how well . . . . .

they could place in 2023! It was a strong squad that represented the club!

In the long Distance events, top places went to Kai OB, Raheel Mahmood, Rebecca Coogan and Summer Smith. Summer also achieved an Essex Best time!

Pbs, medals, and Pennants followed over the following events with great swims from all!

This year’s competition also saw the return of the 9/10 years relay and Romford called upon its youngest and newest swimmers to participate. For some this was their first gala! Overall the team came 8th which is an excellent achievement for them.

We also had Age group top swimmers for Raheel Mahmood, Rebecca Coogan, and Summer Smith. Raheel making it another year as the Top Senior Swimmer.

Younger swimmers who came through to place in the top overall spots were Charley Long ( 2nd Overall in her age group), Victoria Edghill (5th overall in her age group) and Kai O’Connell-Boyle (5th overall in his age group)

This all tallied to a huge total of 849.5 points for the club and second place overall in the county! Beating much bigger clubs to that well-deserved place for the second year in a row!

The club are super proud of the effort and dedication the swimmers have put in to see some very successful swims which may not be mentioned here but are very well recognized by the coaches, parents, and volunteers within the club!

We congratulate all who took part and would like to thank the county clubs and officials for putting on another extremely high-level performance of swimming within the county!

Romford now looks to attend the London regional competition.

If your child is interested in joining a competitive club squad please contact Romfordtownsc@aol.com who knows you could have the next Adam Peaty!
