The bank holiday weekend wasn’t one of rest for RTSC’s older swimmers as they were competing in the annual London Regional Championships. The early start on Saturday morning was the beginning of a special weekend for 15 year old Emily Milton, taking silver medal in her opening event the 400IM. Older sister Georgia just missed out on a medal finishing in 4th place.
Town then put forward 2 relay teams aged 14/16 in the 4 x100m Freestyle event. The boys comprising Lewis Binning, Daniel Gencas, Jude Ward and Aaron Wilson swam an impressive 3.53.40 finishing in 6th place, with the girls, Jess Ayling, Emily Milton, Amelia Moule and Agne Slipityte finishing 7th in 4.11.71.
100m Backstroke saw Wilson and Ward both make the final; with only 24/100ths between them Ward finished 7th and Wilson 8th. The girls then had a duo in the 200m Breastrstroke, 15 year old Slipityte finished 7th whilst 16 year old Jess Ayling collected herself a bronze medal. Emily Milton squeezed into the 50m Butterfly final and then improved her position finishing in 8th place. The last event of day 1 was the 200m Freestyle and whilst Town didn’t collect any medals, 3 swimmers made the finals. The Milton sisters finished in 4th (Emily) and 5th (Georgia) places in their respective age groups whilst Aaron Wilson finished 7th in his age group.
Sunday morning brought another early start, but it was big smiles for Emily Milton and Slipityte as they picked up Gold and Bronze respectively in the 800m Freestyle. Georgia Milton claimed a silver and Ayling just missed out on a medal finishing in 4th place.
Then came the relay teams again, this time in a 4 x 200m Freestyle. The boys, this time including Joe Groves, just missed out on a medal finishing in 4th place, whilst the girls swam to glory and picked up a silver medal.
Town had 3 finalists in the 200IM. Both Emily and Georgia Milton finished in 5th place, whilst Megan Witton finished 6th, before finishing 10th in the 100m Butterfly final. Hannah Binning made the 17 and over final of the 50m Backstroke finishing in 10th place.
Wilson finished 5th in the 50m Backstroke final and 7th in the 50m Freestyle final. Ayling just missed out on a medal again, this time in the 100m Breaststroke before the same placing came for her older brother Jack. Jack’s 50m Freestyle time was 24.56 and there was just 54/100ths of a second between 1st and 4th place!
Bank holiday Monday started with the 400m Freestyle. Wilson finished 7th and Ward 8th, whilst 16 year old Joe Groves finished 5th. The girls made podium finished with Emily Milton, Jess Ayling and Georgia Milton all collecting bronze medals. Agne Slipityte claimed 7th place. Lucky 7 then prevailed with both the boys and girls finishing in 7th place in the 4x100m Medley relay.
Jess Ayling then picked up another bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke. Georgia Milton just missed out again on the medals finishing in 4th place with a gutsy 200m Backstroke swim. Jude Ward made the podium picking up bronze on the 200m Back in a time of 2.18.02 whilst team mate Groves finished in 6th place in his final.
The Milton sisters collected a silver apiece in the 200m Butterfly. Wilson secured a PB in the 100m Freestyle in 57.77, which gave him 7th place. Groves finished in 6th place in his final of the same event.
Head Coach Gary Rogers was pleased with the efforts made by his swimmers and is looking forward to the Age Group Championships starting at the LAC 13/14th May.
