London Regional Senior Winter Championships

The annual Regional Winter Champs took place at the London Aquatic Centre last weekend. Age Groups were classified into 16 and under and 17 and over, with medals being awarded to the top 3 swimmers in each event in each of those age groups.

Romford Town’s girls were in magnificent form. Georgia Milton started her gold rush early in the 400m Freestyle, finishing in first place. Megan Witton made the final of the 17 and over 100m Butterfly and finished in 9th place, before finishing 7th in the 200m Breaststroke. The dynamic duo of Jess Ayling and Sumayah Chabani then produced a fantastic silver and bronze medal finish.

17 year old Hannah Binning made her first final of the weekend in the 200m Backstroke where she finished in 6th place. Ayling made final number two for her efforts, also finishing in 6th place in the 50m Breaststroke.

200m Butterfly saw Georgia Milton finish 6th in the 16 and unders, whilst Witton produced a great swim to finish in bronze medal position.

James Rowell did his bit for the RTSC boys by making the 50m Backstroke final in the 16 and under age group, where he finished in 10th place.

Georgia Milton and Hannah Binning made the 100IM finals in their respective age groups with Milton finishing 8th and Binning 5th. Milton improved her finish in the 200IM securing 6th place whilst Witton collected her 2nd bronze medal of the competition in the 17 and over 200IM.

Chabani and Ayling brought delight again, this time in the 100m Breaststroke; Chabani finished just outside the medals in 4th place, whilst Ayling finished 6th. Binning made the 100m Backstroke final finishing in 6th place.

Georgia Milton demonstrated her strength in the 800m Freestyle taking the gold medal position, with younger sister Emily securing an impressive 5th place finish. Georgia’s success in this race saw her awarded with the prestigious distance swim trophy.

Milton went on to take 8th place in the 200m Freestyle, with Binning taking 9th place in her age group. Georgia finished her weekend off in style by winning the 400m Individual Medley, scooping her 3rd gold medal of the competition.

Binning then built up her weekend’s racing to a high point making both the 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke finals. Her efforts gave her an 8th place finish in the Fly and a bronze medal in the Backstroke.

Head Coach Gary Rogers was pleased to see the podium finishes, along with some good PBs, so soon after the County Championships of last weekend.
