RTSC’s youngsters were at East Ham swimming pool for a busy day of competition. The day started with the boys’ 50m Freestyle with Raheel Mahmood (11) taking. . . . . . . .

the silver medal, Denis Drelev (12) collecting bronze and Vaugn Dooley (17) claiming gold in the 15+ age category.

Next came the girls with 8 year old Lois Smith picking up the silver medal for her efforts in the 50m Freestyle. Rebecca Coogan (10) also picked up silver, whilst Lexi O’Connor and Ella Kilby (both 11) picked up the silver and bronze respectively. 13 year old Ruby Guynan took the gold medal in her age group.

100m Backstroke was next for the boys: Mahmood took gold; Oliver Smith (11) took silver; Mark Rigo (12) claimed gold; Drelev bronze; Tyrese Thompson (14) gold; Dooley gold and Aidan Fernandes (15) collected bronze.
O’Connor picked up another gold medal in her 100m Backstroke. Millie Hosler (12) and Kennedy claimed silver and bronze between them, whilst Guynan picked up a bronze.

Gold went to Mahmood in the 50m Butterfly, Drelev and Lewis Jarrett (12) made it a Town gold, silver finish, before Dooley picked up another gold medal.

Lois Smith had another great swim to take silver in the girls’ 50m Butterfly. Kilby claimed bronze, with Tierney Rooney (12) taking the gold. 13 year old Magdalena Yordanova claimed the silver medal, whilst 16 year old Madeleine McCormack took the silver in the 15+ category.

100m Breaststroke saw Mahmood and Jarrett take silvers in their age groups. Lois Smith collected a bronze, whilst Alexandra Giles (11) picked up the gold medal, with Kilby placed in silver. McCormack also claimed a silver medal.

Having observed the 2 minute silence, marking the 100 year anniversary of the end of WW1, the action in the pool continued. The boys’ 50m Breaststroke gave Mahmood silver and Rigo gold. Lois Smith took another medal – this time a sliver. Coogan claimed a silver too, with O’Connor and McCormack both dominating their races to take the golds.

Mahmood made it a hat trick of golds taking the win in the 100m Butterfly. Luke Marney (14) picked up a bronze. 11 year old Codie McSheffrey finished with a bronze medal for her effort, whilst Rooney, Yordanova and McCormack all took another gold.

50m Backstroke gave Mahmood and Dooley another gold each, Jarrett and Thompson took silvers and Fernandes claimed a bronze. Lois Smith collected another silver medal, Coogan a bronze, Kilby a bronze, Kennedy a well earned gold and Hosler a bronze.

In the final event of the day, Mahmood continued to dominate, this time in the 100m Freestyle. Rigo also maintained his dominance, taking the top spot in his race too, with Jarrett claiming bronze. Marney picked up another bronze medal, with Dooley settling for silver this time.

Lois Smith added another silver medal to her haul, Coogan another gold medal, O’Connor a silver and Kilby a bronze. Hosler and Rooney took silver and bronze respectively, as McCormack picked up another silver.

Assistant Head Coach Wojtek Slusarczyk was poolside, along with A Squad swimmer Jess Ayling, providing valuable support and feedback to Town’s youngsters. Slursarczyk said “We are still early in the competition season, but the results are starting to show for those swimmers committed to their regular training. There are no quick wins in swimming. It is all about working hard and investing in your swimming future.”
