RTSC Christmas Cracker Meet 2019

Romford Town swimmers had a final chance to qualify for Essex County Championships at their Christmas Cracker Gala held at the 50M Olympic pool at the London Aquatic Centre. Swimmers from 34 clubs and 5 counties in the South East competed over the weekend
A clash with the prestigious National Arena League club competition meant that many of Town’s swimmers could not complete a full program. However that did not deter . . . . . .
Raheel Mahmood 12, who won 4 gold 1 silver and 1 bronze, including golds in the 200m, 100m and 50m butterfly and 200 IM. Sophie Long 9, also won 4 golds for the 200m, 100m 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle. Holly Hagan had a busy Christmas weekend winning 3 golds for the 200m, 100m breaststroke and 200m freestyle on the Sunday matched by Victoria Dreleva who also took 3 golds for the 100m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly,
Rebecca Coogan 11, had a very busy weekend and began her hunt for medals on Saturday with winning silver in the 200 IM, plus gold in the 100m freestyle. On Sunday she added a further gold in 200m Freestyle with a bronze in 100m Breastroke.
Junayna Ahmed back from the high altitude of Nepal where she competed in the South Asian games had a great week winning 2 bronzes for Bangledesh, in 400 IM and 200m freestyle. Junayna followed up with a silver and a bronze in 100 freestyle and butterfly respectively for Romford at the LAC.
Amelia Moule 16, last swims of a packed winter season, won her two golds and a silver along with Adam Matloub 16, who won 2 golds and 4 silvers. Other double gold medalists were Emilia Jopson, Amber Mason, returning swimmer Emily Milton 17 and finally Madeleine McCormack 17, who also won 3 silvers and and a bronze.
Other multi -medalists for Town included Dillan Cronin 9, Luke Marney, 15, Joseph Frost 16, Charlie Rogers 11, Lewis Jarrett 12, Danny Moody 13, Sami Matloub 14, Alex Ivanov 11, Joshua Eguakhide 16, Ruthie Eguakhide 10, Codie McSheffrey 12, Nathan Banga 16, Lukas Birmantis 15, Connor McCarthy 14, Mark Rigo 13, Sophia Moule 12, Izzy Jopson 16, Jamieson McLaren and finally Magdalene Yordanova 14.
Coach Scott Denham was delighted with his swimmers and commented “Things are looking good for the club with more life time bests and county championship qualifying times being reached”
Town’s senior swimmers also had a very successful National Winter Championships in Sheffield. Lewis Clifford Stephenson 26, won through to a senior final in the 50m freestyle, and came 7th. Daniel Gencas 16, and Jess Ayling 18, both made their debuts in Youth Finals where they each finished 9th in 200m freestyle and 50m breaststroke respectively. Amelia Moule came 16th in 800m freestyle youth category.
