Town’s junior swimmers competed in a sprint meet at Southbury Leisure Centre, where they retained their title as Top Visiting Club.
10 year olds Lexie O’Connor and Ella Kilby started things off well taking……
the gold and silver medals in the 50m Butterfly. 11 year old Tierney Rooney claimed gold in her age group and 12 year old Charlotte Day took silver in hers. Oliver Smith (10) picked up the bronze, before Lewis Jarrett (11) and Connor McCarthy (13) both claimed gold medals in their respective age groups.
Kilby and O’Connor dominated the 10 year old girls 50m Backstroke, but this time Kilby took gold with O’Connor taking silver. Rooney picked up gold medal number 2. 12 year old Olivia Humphrey also claimed a gold with Day taking bronze. The both collected the medals too: Smith a silver; Jarrett gold; McCarthy silver and 14 year old Tyrese Thompson a bronze.
The exciting 100IM brought lots of medals Town’s way: O’Connor picked up gold number 2; Codie McSheffrey (11) claimed gold with Rooney taking bronze. The 12 year old girls claimed Town’s only 1,2,3 finish of the day courtesy of Ruby Le May, Humphrey and Day. Smith swam to glory to take his 1st gold medal of the meet, whilst Jarrett claimed gold number 2. Luke James (11) picked up the bronze medal in his age group. McCarthy took silver and Thompson a bronze.
After a short break it was the 50m Breaststroke where O’Connor claimed her hat trick of golds and Le May took silver. Jarrett made his 4th win from 4 swims to add another gold medal to his collection. McCarthy took silver and Thompson another bronze.
Finally the 50m Freestyle wrapped up an exciting morning of swimming. Kilby claimed gold with O’Connor taking silver. Rooney picked up a silver, Humphrey a gold and Le May a silver. Jarrett conceded the win for the first time all day to take the silver medal, whilst McCarthy ended his meet with another gold.
Assistant Head Coach Voitek was very pleased with the efforts mades by Town’s youngsters, many of them still very new to competition. He said “There have been some great swims here today with lots of PBs. There is always much to learn at the start of a competitive swimming career and Enfield have played great hosts to us today, as many of our youngsters experienced. It is always rewarding to win the Top Visiting Club Trophy – well done to everyone today that helped to make that happen.”
